Recently a Safe Cosmetic Act has been re-introduced to the House. Last year it was voted down through the efforts of members in the cosmetic industry.
Many of our representatives feel that the American public has a right to full disclosure of ingredients on the products that they purchase. Why do those in the industry feel concerned about this information being made public? If all the ingredients that they provide are safe for use on people, then why the need for secrecy?
As we move forward into the future the need for sustainable practices will only grow greater. How do you feel about the need for ingredient disclosure on personal care and cosmetic products?
When most people hear ‘pray for peace’ they think of the opposite-war. Although this certainly fits within our definition, pray for peace has meaning that spans every aspect of human life. We can have peace in our relationships, we can have peace within ourselves including a peaceful state of mind and body. Peace can encompass how we interact with the planet, the respect we show for the food we eat.
Peace is an idea, a philosophy, a noun and a verb. It is something we embrace and having embraced it we watch as peace unfolds in our life.
‘Being’ is a word that connotes action for most people, but sometimes being is a simple, contemplative state of mind whereby action is replaced with presence. My husband used to say “we are not human doings, we are human beings.” He was trying to get me to understand that the constant doing is sometimes counterproductive, sometimes we have to simply be.
In business this almost seems counter-intuitive. How can you ‘be’ (which seems like standing still) when all your competitors, and everyone else around you, is constantly doing?
Being doesn’t mean not doing. Being simply means observation, awareness and reflection. Through this process you see what others are doing, you consider whether their actions are useful and whether you want to follow the same path. You spend time on reflection in regards to how your business runs, how it is impacted by the greater world beyond your doors.
When you are constantly ‘doing’ you can get caught in the old cliche of not seeing the forest for the trees. Try a little ‘being’ in business today and see what insights you can glean from a quiet mind.
